Given: A and B together can finish a work in 45 days They worked for it for 36 days and then B left the work The remaining work was done by A alone in 16 days more Concept Used: Work done in 1 day by a worker $= \frac{1}{n}$ Where n = Number of days to complete a work by the worker Calculation: Work done by A and B together in one day $= \frac{1}{45}$ Work done by A and B together in 36 days $= \frac{36}{45} = \frac{4}{5}$ Amount of work left when B left the work $= 1 - \frac{4}{5} = \frac{1}{5}$ Work done by A alone in one day $= \frac{\frac{1}{5}}{16} = \frac{1}{80}$ Time taken by A alone to finish the work $= \frac{1}{\frac{1}{80}} = 80$ days ∴ Time taken by A alone to finish the work = 80 days
