● The word Love (for zero score) comes from French word l'oeuf – which means egg which is in the shape of zero. ● The word Tennis itself originated from the French word tenez - which means to receive. The word Deuce comes from French words à deux le jeu - which means both players have the game, anyone can win. ● Unlike soccer, basketball, and baseball, which simply count points for every goal, basket, and run, tennis has a scoring system (and lexicon) all its own. ● At the beginning of the game, when both sides have no score, the game is love-love because, in tennis, love means having a score of zero or nil. ● Note-In badminton, 0 points are called “love”.
