The boat travels 39 km upstream in 6.5 hours

The boat travels 95 km downstream in 9.5 hours

Formula Used:

Speed of boat in still water

= \frac{ \left( \text{Upstream Speed} + \text{Downstream Speed} \right) }{2}

Calculation:

Using the formula, Speed

= \frac{ \text{Distance} }{ \text{Time} }

⇒ Upstream Speed

= \left( \frac{39}{6.5} \right)

kmph = 6 kmph

⇒ Downstream Speed

= \left( \frac{95}{9.5} \right)

kmph = 10 kmph

Speed of boat in still water

=\frac{ \left( \text{Upstream Speed} + \text{Downstream Speed} \right) }{2}

\Rightarrow \left( \frac{6+10}{2} \right)

⇒ 8 kmph

∴ Speed of the boat in still water = 8 kmph
