Given: P can complete the work in 6 days Q can complete the work in 12 days They took a work for Rs. 3000 P left the work after working 3 days Concept Used: Work = Efficiency × Time Wages ∝ Efficiency Calculation: P’s 1 day work = $\frac{1}{6}$ Q’s 1 day work $= \frac{1}{12}$ Now, they took a work for Rs. 3000 ⇒ Ratio of their shares = Ratio of their work done $= \frac{1}{6} \colon \frac{1}{12}$ ⇒ 12 ∶ 6 = 2 ∶ 1 ⇒ Q’s share $= \frac{1}{3} \times 3000 =$ Rs. 1000 But, P left after 3 days, ⇒ Work done by P in 3 days $= 3 \times \frac{1}{6} = \frac{1}{2}$ ⇒ Work done by Q $= 1 - \frac{1}{2} = \frac{1}{2}$ ⇒ Ratio of their shares $= \frac{1}{2} \colon \frac{1}{2} = 1 \colon 1$ ⇒ Q’s share $= \frac{1}{2} \times 3000 =$ Rs. 1500 ∴ Q will get = 1500 - 1000 = Rs. 500 more
