(a) The error lies in sentence (a) as we say 'hang on' instead of 'hang over.' In sentence (b), 'hang up' is to stop playing, i.e. to retire. 'Hang around' in sentence (c) is to loiter or move about without any reason and in sentence (d), 'hanging on' is referred to listening to someone attentively.
