From statement I

The time taken to cover 40 km is not known.

From statement II

If PQ = xkm then the distance covered by the troubled engine

= (x- 40) km

Usual speed =

\frac{40}{2}

= 20 kmph

Usual time =

\left(\frac{x}{20}\right)

∴ 2 hours +

\frac{x-40}{5} - \frac{x}{20}

\frac{40}{60}

\frac{2}{3}

\frac{x}{20}

\frac{x-40}{5}

= 2 -

\frac{x-4x+160}{20}

=
