In eukaryotes, the packaging of DNA is much more complex.There is a set of positively charged, basic proteins called histones.Histones are organised to form a unit of eight molecules called a histone octamer.Histones are rich in the basic amino acid residues lysine and arginine.Lysine and arginine both carry positively charged side chains, which help the histones bind the negatively charged DNA.Hence, histones are enriched with lysine and arginine.
