117. (4) Part filled by pipe E in 2hours

=\frac{2}{12}=\frac{1}{6}

Remaining part

= 1-\frac{1}{6}=\frac{5}{6}

Part of the tank filled in 1 hourby B and C

=\frac{1}{8}+\frac{1}{6}=\frac{3+4}{24}=\frac{7}{24}

∴Time taken in filling

\frac{5}{6}

=\frac{24}{7}\times\frac{5}{6}=\frac{20}{7}

hours

∴ Total time

= \left[2+\frac{20}{7}\right]\text{hours}

=\left[\frac{14+20}{7}\right]\text{hours}

=\frac{34}{7}\text{hours}

= 4\frac{6}{7}\text{hours}
