Directions (131–135) : Study the given information carefully and answer the given questions.

The revenue of a given railway zone was collected from 4 primary sources- Offline Ticket Sales, Online Ticket Sales, Freight, Finesduring 3 Financial Years (FY 2013- 14, FY 2014-15, FY 2015-16)

FY 2013-14 : Total revenue collectedwas Rs. 3500 crore. Fines (Rs.x crore) comprised

7\frac{6}{7}\%

of the totalrevenue and revenue from onlineticket sales was Rs. ‘x + 300’crore. Revenue from freight was 12%more than that from offline ticketsales.

FY 2014–15 : Revenue fromonline ticket sales increased by Rs.25 crore over FY 2013-14. Revenuefrom Offline ticket sales was 40%of the total revenue in FY 2014-15.Revenue from Freight and Fines wasin the respective ratio of 5 : 1.

FY 2015–16 : Revenue fromfines in FY 2013-14 was

Revenue from fines comprised two sources- vendors and passengers. Fines from passengers (Rs. y crore) remained constant in FY 2013-14 and FY 2014-15. If the fine from vendors in FY 2013-14 was 55% of that in FY 2014-15, what was the value of y?

Solution:

(2) Time taken by A = x daysTime taken by B = y days

\therefore \frac{20}{x}+\frac{20}{y}=1

...(i)

Again,

\frac{15}{y}+\frac{24}{x}=1

...(ii)

By equation (i) × 12 – (ii) × 10,

\frac{240}{x}+\frac{240}{y}-\frac{150}{y}-\frac{240}{x}

= 12 – 10

\Rightarrow \frac{90}{y} 2

⇒ y = 45 days

From equation (i),

\frac{20}{x}+\frac{20}{45}=1

\Rightarrow \frac{20}{x}=1-\frac{4}{9}=\frac{9-4}{9}=\frac{5}{9}

\Rightarrow x =\frac{20 \times 9}{5}= 36 \text{ days}

Revenue from offline tickets

= Rs. x crores

∴ Revenue from freight

= Rs. 1.12 crores

\therefore x + 1.12 x

= Rs. (3500 – 275 – 575) crores

⇒ 2.12x = Rs. 2650 crores

\therefore x =\frac{2650}{2.12}= \text{Rs. } 1250

crores

\therefore \text{Freight} \Rightarrow \frac{1250 \times 112}{100}= \text{Rs. } 1400 \text{ crores}

Financial year (2014-15) :

Online tickets

⇒ Rs. (575 +25) crores

= Rs. 600 crores

Freight ⇒Rs.(1400 + 250) crores= Rs. 1650 crores

Fines

\Rightarrow \frac{1650}{5}= \text{Rs. } 330 \text{ crores}

∴ Offline tickets

= (600 + 1650 + 330)\frac{4}{6}

= \frac{2580 \times 4}{6}

= Rs. 1720 crores

Total revenue = Rs. (600 + 1650+ 330 + 1720) crores

= Rs. 4300 crores

Financial year (2015-16) :

Fines

\Rightarrow \frac{275 \times 16}{11}

= Rs. 400 crores

Online tickets

\Rightarrow \frac{600 \times 150}{100}

= Rs. 900 crores

Offline tickets

= \text{Rs. } \frac{1720+ 1250}{2} \text{ crores}

= \text{Rs. } \frac{2970}{2} \text{ crores}

= Rs. 1485 crores

(4) In 2014–15 fines from vendors= Rs. x crores

Fines in 2013-14

= \text{Rs. } \frac{55x}{100} \text{ crores}

= \text{Rs. } \frac{11x}{20} \text{ crores}

\therefore \frac{11x}{20}+y=275

and x + y = 330

\Rightarrow \frac{11x}{20}+\frac{11}{20}y = 330

\times \frac{11}{20}

= 181.5

\Rightarrow \frac{11x}{20}+y-\frac{11x}{20}-\frac{11y}{20}

= 275 – 181.5

\Rightarrow y-\frac{11y}{20}= 93.5

\Rightarrow \frac{20y- 11y}{20}= 93.5

\Rightarrow \frac{9y}{20}= 93.5

\Rightarrow y =\frac{93.5 \times 20}{9}

.≈ Rs. 208 crores
