A, B and C start a business in partnership with respective initial investments of Rs. 4200, Rs. 3600 and Rs. 2400. After 4 months from the start of the business, A invests an additional amount of Rs. 1000 in the business. After 6 months from the start of the business B and C invest additional amounts in the respective ratio of 1 : 2. After 10 months they get a total profit of Rs. 2820. If the share of A in profit be Rs. 1200, what was the additional investment made by B?

(2) Let additional investmentsof B and C respectively after6 months = Rs. x and Rs. 2xRatio of the equivalent capitalsof A, B and C for 1 month

= (4200 \times 4 + 5200 \times 6) : 3600 \times 6 + (3600 + x) \times 4

: 2400 \times 6 + (2400 + 2x) \times 4

= (16800 + 31200) : (21600 + 14400 + 4x) : (14400 + 9600 + 8x)

= 48000 : 36000 + 4x : 24000 + 8x

Sum of the terms of ratio

= 108000 + 12x

According to the question,

\frac{48000}{108000 + 12x} \times 2820 = 1200

\Rightarrow 108000 + 12x = 2820 \times 40

\Rightarrow 108000 + 12x = 112800

\Rightarrow 12x = 112800 - 108000

= 4800

\Rightarrow x = \frac{4800}{12} = \text{Rs. } 400
