The term SENSEX was coined by Deepak Mohoni, a stock market analyst. It is a portmanteau of the words Sensitive and Index. S&P BSE SENSEX is the term first compiled in 1986,which was calculated on a'Market Capitalisation-Weighted'methodology of 30 component stocks representing large, wellestablished and financially sound companies across the key sectors.
