Female wrestler Sakshi Malik earned India's first medal of the 2016 Rio Olympics with a third-place finish on August 18, 2016.
Sakshi Malik, 23, was also the first Indian woman to win a wrestling medal and the fourth to win at any Olympic Games.

Geeta Phogat is a freestyle wrestler who won India's first-ever gold medal in wrestling at the Commonwealth Games in 2010.
She is also the first Indian female wrestler to have qualified for the Olympic Summer Games.
The first Indian woman to ever win an Olympic medal was Karnam Malleswari who won a bronze medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics in the Women's 69 kg category in Weightlifting.
P.V.Sindhu became the first-ever Indian woman to win the Silver medal at the Olympics, by reaching the Badminton final at Rio Olympics 2016. She became the youngest Indian woman to win an Olympic medal.
