Mahmud of Ghazni invaded India for 17 times during the period between 1000 and 1027 AD. The two main reasons that led to the conquest of India by Mahmud Ghazni was firstly, to accumulate the vast amount of wealth that existed in India, and secondly, to spread, Islam. He plundered one of the most revered temple of Hindu's i.e. Somnath temple in 1027. Most of the Muslim ruler invaded India to destroy the Hindu religion.
