Justice HL Dattu was the chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India from February 29, 2016 to December 2,2020 . It is a statutory body. It was constituted on October 12, 1993 under the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993. The NHRC is responsible for the protection and promotion of human rights in India.
