Akbar’s Din-i-Illahi recognized no prophets. It overthrew almost every ceremonial rule whether Islamic or Hindu, but took the good ideas from the Brahmins as well as from the missionaries and adopted “Sun” as a symbol for the worship of the creator. The features of this new cult were: It forbade cow eating, it made no distinction among Indians, instituted worship of Sun as creator, incorporated the sacred fire adored by the Parsis, encouraged the practice of Havana (hom sacrifice) propounded by the Hindus. The emperor was ahead of his times in creating such a cult but it eventually died with him.
