Selenium
is not a metal and it has been named after the Greek goddess of the moon "Selene".
The Selenium belongs to the Non-Metal Category as it is found in Group 16(chalcogens) and Period 4 of the Periodic Table with Atomic number 34.
It was discovered by Jons Jacobs Berzelius in 1817 who was a Swedish Chemist and also considered as one of the founders of Modern Chemistry.
Jacobs Berzelius has also discovered Cerium( Atomic Number-58) lying in the Lanthanide Series of f-block elements.
Selenium resides in the Solid-phase at STP whereas its Melting point is 494K & its Boiling Point is 958K.
