Question Numbers: 86-90Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions based on the passage:Bertolt Brecht began writing plays in the 1920s, but they didn't gain recognition in the West until the mid-20th century, when people began rejecting Stanislavsky-oriented realism and the presentation of Well-made plays on stage. Epic theatre is based on the theories and practices developed by Brecht in the twenties. 'Epic theatre, German episches Theatre, a mode of instructive theatre showing a number of not so tightly knit scenes that refrained from creating an illusion and frequently broke the plot to talk to the spectators in a direct manner with analysis, argument, or evidence.'It follows the episodic structure and didactic style of Expressionist drama directed by Erwin Piscator. In these plays, Brecht makes use of 'alienation effect' to dissuade the audience from empathizing with characters and focus objectively on the action and argument and draw a conclusion. This theatre also shows Chinese theatre influence, as the actors kept a distance from the characters they impersonated on stage.
