(*) A meristematic tissue consists of cells having thin cell walls, dense cytoplasm, prominent nuclei and no vacuoles. They have prominent and large nucleus. Meristematic cells lack vacuoles because vacuole provide rigidity to cells preventing quick division while meristematic tissues possess the ability to divide. They are actively dividing cells present in the growing region of plant, e.g., the tips of roots and stems. They mainly perform the function of forming new cells there by increasing the length and girth of the plant body.
