(1) Pitch is a subjective quality of a sound that determines its position in a musical scale. It may be measured as the frequency of the pure tone of specified intensity that is judged by the average normal ear to occupy the same place in the musical scale. Although pitch is measured in terms of — frequency, it is also dependent on the loudness and quality of the note. As the intensity is increased, the pitch of a low-frequency note is lowered while that of a high note is raised.
