letter in the English alphabet is coded as

(n+4)(\mathrm{mod}\,26)^{\text{th}}

letter if n is even and

(n-4)(\mathrm{bmod}\,26)^{\text{th}}

letter if n is odd. The inverse process is used for decoding.
