Diagnostic assessment is a form of pre-assessment that allows a teacher to determine students' knowledge, skills, strengths and weaknesses, prior to instruction; and diagnose student difficulties so as to steer lesson and curriculum planning accordingly. It benefits both the instructor and the students, as it allows teachers to plan meaningful and efficient focussing on topics not learnt by the students. Hence, it ascertains causes and remedies of persistent learning problems during instructions.
