Eye contact is a form of body language which is important during communication. When you keep eye contact with the person you are talking to, it indicates that you are focused on the communication; are paying attention to what the person has to say; and, you are speaking the truth, or you mean what you say. So, eye contact instils trust. Use of hyperbole or exaggeration as well as abstract concepts puts off the audience; voice modulation creates impact but does not help in building trust.
