(c) The National Food Security Act, 2013, aims to provide subsidised food grains. It covered up to 75 percent of rural and 50 percent of the urban population. Its special focus is providing nutritional support to women and children. Eldest women above 18 years of age are considered the head of the household for the purpose of issuing of ration cards. Pregnant women and lactating mothers are also entitled to receive maternity benefit.
