Prarthana Samaj, or ‘‘Prayer Society’’ was a movement for religious and social reform in Bombay, India, based on earlier reform movements. Inspired by the Brahmo Samaj, it was founded by the Atmaram Pandurang in 1867 when Kesab Chandra Sen visited Maharashtra. It aimed to make people believe in one God and worship only one God (monotheism).
