In November 2017, an Indian short film, The School Bag won the Best Short Film Award at the South Asian Film Festival held at Montreal. Dheeraj Jindal is the Director of the film. The movie's plot is based in Peshawar and tells a story about the relationship between a mother and her seven-year-old son who wants a new school bag on his birthday. The film recreates events that happened in Peshawar in December 2014 when terrorists mowed down hundreds of school children. South Asian Film Festival of Montreal (SAFFMontreal) is presented by the Kabir Centre for Arts & Culture, a not-for-profit organisation promoting various art forms and activities such as music, dance, cinema, literature and poetry.
