Characteristics of rice crop: • Rice is a Kharif crop. • Rice requires the temperature, above 25 Degree Celcius and annual rainfall above 100 cm. • The major rice-producing states are Punjab, Haryana, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.• Rice is the staple food crop. • Bangladesh possesses three rice seasons, the aus, aman, and boro. The aus season rice crop is planted during the month of March-April and harvested during months of June-July. The aman season rice is planted in months of June-July and harvested during months of November-December. The boro season rice is planted in months of December-January & harvested during May-June. • About 1/4th of the total cropped area of India is under rice cultivation. Rice is one of the most important food crops and feeds more than 60% population of India. The area under rice crop was 30.81 million per ha in the year 1950-51 which has increased to 43.86 million hectares during the year 2014-15 which is nearly 142% higher.
