The socialist activist KamaladeviChattopadhyay had persuaded Mahatma Gandhi not to restrict the protests to men alone. She was herself one of the numerous women who courted arrest by breaking the salt/liquor laws. KamaladeviChattopadhyay was a key figure in the international socialist feminist movement. From the late part of the 1920s to the 1940s and beyond, she became an emissary for Indian women and political independence. She even advocated transnational causes – like racism, political &economic equity between nations. She even attended the International Alliance of Women in Berlin in the year 1929.
