Hambantota Port (or Magampura Mahinda Rajapaksa Port) is located in Sri Lanka. It is a maritime port. The first phase of the port was opened on 18 November 2010. It is named after former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Hambantota International Port Group (HIPG) and Hambantota International Port Services (HIPS), two new companies set up by the China Merchants Port Holdings Company and the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, own the port. China takes over Sri Lanka's Hambantota port on a 99-year lease.
