Satna is not situated on Varanasi–Kanyakumari National Highway. According to the old numbering system for the National Highway, Varanasi–Kanyakumari National Highway or National Highway 7 was a major North– South National Highway in India that runs through the states of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. It passes through various major cities of India, like Varanasi – Mirzapur – Rewa – Maihar – Katni – Jabalpur – Nagpur – Hyderabad – Kurnool – Salem – Rasipuram – Namakkal – Padamudipaliayam – Vedasandur – Dindigul – Vadippatti – Madurai – Tirumangalam – Virudnagar–Sattur, and ends up in Kanyakumari. On 28 April, 2010, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways officially published a new numbering system for the National Highway network in the Gazette of the Government of India.
