Source : World Development Indicators, 2015.
Country | Annual Growth Rate of Population (2015) | Gender Ratio (Per thousand males) |
---|---|---|
India | 1.2% | 929 |
China | 0.5% | 941 |
Solution:
(i) Though, China is the most populated country, but its annual rate of population is the lowest ( 0.5 % ) as compared to India ( 1.2 % ) . The reason for the low growth of population is the "One-child policy" introduced in China in 1979.
(ii) Due to preference of son, sex ratio is low and biased against female in both countries. Sex ratio is the lowest in India with 929 females per thousand males as compared to China with 941 females per thousand males.
(iii) By comparing both the countries, we observed that China's annual growth rate of population is low compared to India as China has adopted one child policy. It is also observed that to per thousand males there are 941 females in China which is more in compare to India where there are 929 females only to per thousand males. So, it is very clear that China is taking strict actions towards these issues.
