Solution:
RAIN HARVESTING IS THE ONLY SOLUTION TO WATER CRISIS IN THE PRESENT TIMES
FOR :
Honourable members of the Jury, my teachers, and my contenders, greetings to each one of you gathered here. Today I, Sujtha/Ajith, am glad to have been given this opportunity to voice my views on the topic "Rain harvesting is the only solution to water crisis in the present times." I am concentrating on the facts and advantages of the elements and components of this topic.
The most common slogan "You never know the worth of water until the well runs dry" is a widely spoken topic. Although planet earth consists of three-fourths water, not all water is drinkable, resulting in scarcity of water. With the increasing population, and with major parts of the world struggling for water, the need for improvising the management of water resources is a major concern.
The solution to this water crisis lies in rainwater harvesting. Rainwater harvesting is collecting and storing rainwater for utilising rather than let it go waste. Rainwater harvesting is free from chemicals, and favourable for multiple uses like domestic use, livestock, gardening, irrigation especially, at the time of droughts.
The bright and yet simple idea of saving groundwater and using rainwater is by harvesting rainwater i.e., collect, filter, store, and utilise the rainwater for any and every purpose. Rainwater harvesting setup is affordable to install, easy to maintain, useful for irrigation, and has multipurpose usage. I hope that public makes use of this environmental-friendly resource that will benefit all.
Thank you.
AGAINST :
Honourable judges, teachers, and my dear friends, today I, Sujatha/Ajith, stand before you to express my views against the topic "Rain harvesting is the only solution to water crisis in the present times", Yes, this topic is a crucial one but when we look at the various drawbacks, it will surely help decide for itself.
Water harvesting is not a bad idea but, who can precisely predict the rainfall? It could rain enough only to a limited extent or low or even not at all. It is beneficial to the areas where there is a downpour of rain.
It is initially a costly affair depending on the quantity of rainfall and the complexity of the system. The harvesting system requires routine maintenance. Therefore, if no care is taken, it could be a breeding ground for algae, bacteria, and pests. Another aspect is the quality of the construction of the rainwater harvesting system and the storage limit it holds which may not be sustainable for all.
Rain water harvesting will be of no benefit to drought-affected regions, it would only benefit the places that receive heavy rainfall letting water diversions to arid lands. Therefore, I believe that rainwater harvesting is not an optimum method of water conservation.
Thank you.
