Why did the Tiger King decide to kill a hundred tigers? Describe the efforts he made to attain his target.
Solution:
The chief astrologer of the King told him that a tiger would be the cause of the King's death. The King wanted to prove the astrologer wrong and hence, decided to kill a hundred tigers. Sometimes, the King's aim would miss and sometimes, the tigers would leap on him and he would have to fight the tigers with his bare hands. When the King had killed all the seventy tigers of his kingdom, he married a girl whose state had a larger tiger population. When he had killed ninety-nine tigers, he could not find the hundredth to overcome his fear. A tiger was brought from the People's Park in Madras and was taken to the forest where the Maharaja used to hunt. The Maharaja took aim and shot the tiger who fell in a heap. The bullet had missed it and the tiger just fainted from the shock of the bullet whizzing past.
