'No detention policy for classes sixth to eighth is academically very unsound.' Write a debate in 150-200 words either for or against the motion.
Solution:
NO DETENTION POLICY FOR CLASSES SIXTH TO EIGHTH IS ACADEMICALLY VERY UNSOUND
FOR :
Good morning everyone ! TodayI , XYZ , stand before you to speak for the motion 'No detention policy for classes sixth to eight is academically very unsound'.
'No detention policy' states that no child shall be held back in any class or expelled from the school till the completion of elementary education. The step was taken to reduce stress and pressure among students, but the policy has led to poor outcomes, as there has hardly been any improvement in the academic standard.
It has encouraged negligence and reluctance of children to study. A student develops a carefree and an easy-going attitude, with an automatic promotion system up to class 8 and in class 9 , he is unable to change his attitude suddenly, hence, they fail to cope with the academic pressure and end up failing their board exams.
I, therefore, firmly agree that the policy of no detention till class 8 is not in the interest of students, as it gives security of passage to the next class, regardless of a child's competence to learn heavier concepts.
Thank You.
AGAINST :
Good morning to one and all. Today I, xyz, stand here to speak against the motion 'No detention policy for classes, sixth to eight is academically very unsound.' No detention policy. No detention policy states that no child shall be held back in any class or expelled from the school till the completion of his elementary education. This policy will not only reduce the stress to pass in a particular grade but wall also reduce the drop-out rates especially from government schools.
Indian education system gives more importance to marks rather than achieving academic excellence through gaining knowledge. In such a scenario, passing is more crucial than learning and the 'no detention policy' thus, comes as a rescue.
A major benefit of this policy is that it has a direct impact on the dropout rates and boosts the confidence in under-performing or average students. They are able to grow and learn at par with their peers. A sense of responsibility thus, develops within them by the time they are in grade 9.
Owing to the above reasons, I strongly agree with the policy, especially due to the current educational system in the country.
Thank You.
