Gandhi not only alleviated the economic conditions of the Champaran people but also their social and cultural background. Justify.
Solution:
The Champaran episode brought significant changes in the lives of people. Before that, the people were living in fear but this episode freed them from the fear of British. A close investigation of the problems of the Champaran peasants opened Gandhiji's eyes and he understood the severe injustice done to the peasants by the British. He realised that people had to be made free from fear and only then could they be freed from Britishers' oppression. He not only fought on political and economic front but also for social and cultural backwardness. The whole nation supported him in his fight against the British. With his initiative, the sharecropping system disappeared. Schools were opened in some villages and personal cleanliness and community sanitation was taught to the peasants. Attention was also paid to the state of women's clothes. In this regard, Kasturbai directed them. In this way Gandhiji not only alleviated the economic conditions of the Champaran people but also their social and Cultural background.
