(i) Define Agricultural diversification.
(ii) State the meaning of organic farming. Discuss how does it help in promoting sustainable development.

(ii) Agricultural Diversification: It refers to the practice of growing different crops or raising different types of livestock on a farm or expanding into nonfarm activities such as agroforestry or tourism. The aim is to reduce the risk associated with dependence an a single crop, improve resilience against weather related events and provide alternative source of income.
(ii) Organic Farming: It is a system of farming that relies upon the use of organic inputs for cultivation. It discards the use of chemical inputs.
It helps in promoting sustainable development in following ways:
1. Use of organic resources: Organic farming does not use synthetic chemicals and fertilizers which are petroleum based. Rather it uses manures and compost from wastes of fruits and vegetables which do not harm environment.
2. Eco-friendly: It is environment friendly as it does not have harmful chemicals which pollute soil and water. Healthy soil and water will also be available for future generation.
3. Sustains soil fertility: Use of animal manures and compost sustain soil fertility. It nourishes the soil for future generation. It is not so in case of chemical based farming.
