Arguments in favour of continuing farm subsidies:
(i) Reduces the gap between rich and marginal farmers: Agriculture is a risky business and a large number of farmers are poor. They don't have sufficient means to purchase the required inputs. Hence, subsidies are needed for marginal farmers so that the gap between rich and marginal farmers is reduced.
(ii) Reduction of Cost: When subsidies are given on seeds, fertilizers and power, it reduces the cost of production. Reduced cost not only benefits the farmers but the final consumer in terms of reduced prices of agricultural products, which are essential commodities for people.
