Identify the type of lens and calculate its focal length. If the height of the flame is 3cm, find the height of its image.
Solution:
Given:
h1=+3cm,u=30cm
v=+60cm,f= ?, h= ?

f=+20cm

Therefore, the lens is convex.

×3cm

h=6cm
Here, negative sign indicates that the image formed is inverted. Therefore, height of image of candle flame is 6cm.
