Oxygen is the most important component of air used by living organisms and plants during respiration. When the breakdown of glucose occurs with the use of oxygen it is called aerobic respiration and during the reaction, carbon dioxide and water is formed along with the release of energy. On the other hand, when the breakdown of glucose occurs in the absence of oxygen it is called anaerobic respiration and during the reaction, carbon dioxide and alcohol is formed along with the release of energy.
