The characteristics of Durg-BastarChandrapur iron-ore belt in India are as follows :
(i) Durg-Bastar-Chandrapur belt of high grade haematite iron-ore. This high quality iron ore is suitable for steelmaking.
(ii) The steel made from this ore is used to produce automobiles, railway equipment and in defence sector.
(iii) Half of the iron ore is exported to Japan and South Korea from the Vishakhapatnam port as building new steel plant is a very costly affair.
