(a) Two changes that occurred in West Punjab in the nineteenth century were:
(i) The British Indian government built a network of irrigation canals to transform semi-desert wastelands into fertile agriculture lands that could grow wheat and cotton for export.
(ii) As a result, the Canal Colonies came into existance. These colonies were settled by peasants from other parts of Punjab.
OR
(b) Two advantages of the silk route in the pre-modern trade were:
(i) There was efficient transportation of many valuable materials through this route from one nation to another.
(ii) A large number of explorers and merchants also travelled this route which led to the exchange of ideas, food and culture as well.
