A nucleus becomes stable when its binding energy per nucleon is around $8\,\text{MeV}$. The peak indicates the binding energy per nucleon of He element is closer to $8\,\text{MeV}$. Binding energy per nucleon of $\mathrm{He}$ in actually $7.1\,\text{MeV}$. So, it is stable than its neighbours.
