Question : 33
Total: 74
What is the total mechanical energy possessed by the body at the height of 2 m assuming it is a frictionless medium?
Solution:
At the highest position;
h = 5 m ; m = 10 kg ; g = 10 m ∕ s 2
∴ Potential Energy ( U 1 ) = m g h
= 10 × 10 × 5
= 500 J
Kinetic Energy( K 1 ) = 0 ( ∵ velocity = 0 )
∴ Total mechanical Energy = U 1 + K 1
= 500 + 0
= 500 J
At the height of2 m , the total mechanical energy will remain same as it was at the highest position. ( ∵ U + K = constant, for a freely falling body)
∴ Total mechanical energy = 500 J
