Explain with the help of suitable example polar covalent bond.
Solution:
In a hetero-atomic molecule the shared pair of electrons between the two atoms gets displaced more towards the electronegative atom. The resultant covalent bond is polar covalent bond e.g., in H – F the electron pair is displaced towards fluorine due to highly electronegative F atom. Hence H develops a partial +ve charge while F develops a partial –ve charge
