Find all pairs of consecutive even positive integers, both of which are larger than 5, such that their sum is less than 23.

Solution:

Let x be the smaller of the two positive even integers then the other one is x + 2, then we should have x > 5 and x + x + 2 < 23 or, 2x + 2 < 23 or, 2x < 21 or, x <

Thus, the value of x may be 6, 8, 10 (even integers)
Hence, the pairs may be (6, 8), (8, 10), (10, 12).
