Question : 21
Total: 106
Find the sum to n terms of the A.P., whose kth term is 5k + 1.
Solution:
We have a k = 5k + 1
By substituting the value of k = 1, 2, 3 and 4, we get
a 1 = 5 + 1 = 6, a 2 = 10 + 1 = 11, a 3 = 15 + 1 = 16, a 4 = 20 + 1 = 21
Therefore the A.P. is 6, 11, 16, 21, ..... .
Thus, a = 6, d = 11– 6 = 5
Hence, sum of n terms ,S n =
[2 (6) + (n - 1) 5] [Since S n = n/2 [2a + (n - 1) d]
=
[12 + 5n - 5] =
[7 + 5n] =
By substituting the value of k = 1, 2, 3 and 4, we get
Therefore the A.P. is 6, 11, 16, 21, ..... .
Thus, a = 6, d = 11– 6 = 5
Hence, sum of n terms ,
