If in two circles, arcs of the same length subtend angles 60° and 75° at the centre, find the ratio of their radii.
Solution:
Let r 1 , r 2 and θ 1 , θ 2 be the radii and angles subtended at the centreof two circles respectively.
So,θ 1 = 60° = (
× 60 ) radians =
radians [Since 1° = π/180 radians]
andθ 2 = 60° = (
× 75 ) radians =
radians
Let l be the length of the arc, then, l =r 1 θ 1 and l = r 2 θ 2
⇒r 1 θ 1 = r 2 θ 2 ⇒
=
×
=
Hence, the required ratio is 5 : 4.
So,
and
Let l be the length of the arc, then, l =
⇒
Hence, the required ratio is 5 : 4.
