A car weighs 1800 kg. The distance between its front and back axles is 1.8 m. Its centre of gravity is 1.05 m behind the front axle. Determine the force exerted by the level ground on each front wheel and each back wheel.
Solution:
M = 1800 kg
LetR 1 and R 2 be the reactions on front and back wheels.
∴ R 1 + R 2 = M g = 1800 × 9.8
Taking moment about C.G.,
R 1 × 1.05 = R 2 × 0.75 or R 1 =
R 2
∴
R 2 + R 2 = 1800 × 9.8 or R 2 = 10290 N
So force on each back wheel=
= 5145 N
∴ Force on each front wheel=
= 3675 N
Let
Taking moment about C.G.,
So force on each back wheel
∴ Force on each front wheel
