[NiCl4]2– is paramagnetic while [Ni(CO)4] is diamagnetic though both are tetrahedral. Why?
Solution:  
In Ni(CO)4, Ni is in zero oxidation state whereas in NiCl42–, it is in +2oxidation state. In the presence of CO ligand, the unpaired d-electrons ofNi pair up but Cl‌–being a weak ligand is unable to pair up the unpairedelectrons.
