Describe some features of catalysis by zeolites.
Solution:  
(a) Zeolites are hydrated aluminosilicates which have a threedimensional network structure containing water molecules in theirpores.
(b) The pores are made vacant by heating before catalysis.
(c) The reactions taking place in zeolites depend upon the size and shapeof reactant and product molecules and also on the pores and cavitiesin them. e.g., ZSM-5 converts alcohols to hydrocarbons by dehydratingthem.
