Ionic solids conduct electricity in molten state but not in solid state. Explain.
Solution:
Ionic solids conduct electricity in molten state since in the molten state, ionic solids dissociate to give free ions. However, in the solid state, since the ions are not free to move about but remain held together by strong electrostatic forces of attraction, they do not conduct electricity.
